ABOUT THE HOUSE

Our house is situated in the picturesque hamlet of Mata de Cima, with beautiful walks and bicycle rides.   Additionally, within a 30-40 minutes’ drive you can see breath taking landscapes.  In our hamlet there are the ruins of traditional Portuguese stone cottages with olive groves all around and a variety of different fruit trees belonging to the local people.
We are surrounded by woods with scenic views of Serra de Sico and Serra de Rabacal.
There are lots of activities right outside the door such as beautiful walkways, cycle routes and other amazing places within a 30 minute drive.   However, this is also the perfect retreat to stay in and relax!

Meet The Hosts

We are a family of 6 with three children who have already fled the nest to university in the UK, leaving us with our youngest 5 years old son to help with the business.

Our adventure with Portugal begun in 2019 when we bought the house (which was the only one we saw).  We left England in 2020 with hope and excitement to start a new life in this beautiful and magical part of our planet.

We have three dogs and two cats.  They are all friendly and happy to see people coming to the house.  If you are not very keen on animals, don’t worry we keep them separated from the studio.

We welcome families with children and pets.

Along with English we also speak Polish and a little bit of Portuguese (in progress).

We are surrounded by historical heritage, much marked by the past and the people who crossed it.  It was the Roman occupation that most influenced the evolution of this territory through the generations.  The museum of Santiago de Guarda and the museums of Rabacal & Conimbriga are some of the largest Roman settlements excavated in Portugal.  These were classified as National Monuments in 1910.
 
In addition to the numerous monuments and centuries old churches there are many local picturesque villages to stroll around.  We would also highly recommend paying a visit to the Melrica and Outerio lookouts and take in the breathtaking vistas of the surrounding valleys and mountains.

studio room

You will stay in the apartment/studio which is a self contained part of our house.  The studio is separated to give our guests complete privacy.  The studio includes a kitchen unit, bathroom and a good size, furnished patio area.

The apartment has 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, bed linen, towels, a flat-screen TV, a dining area, a fully equipped kitchen, and a terrace with mountain views.
