The wooden paths of Fragas de São Simão embrace dramatic granite landscapes, steep hills, an enchanting valley and also vestiges of laurel forest.


Inhabited since Roman times, it had its first charter in 1159 by the Order of the Temple. In the 14th century, it passed to the Order of Christ, beginning a period of prosperity that ended with the French invasions. It is today one of the most important parishes in the municipal tourist panorama.
